"Come and see," Jesus answered.
So they went with him and saw where he lived,
and spent the rest of that day with him.
John 1: 38
2nd Sunday Ordinary Time Gospel from John 1: 35-42
Like so many people, being a human, I cannot resist but try out the new food outlets bloosoming around Penang Island. You see, I too, enjoy trying out anything new and UNIQUE; I too thrist for the beautiful, the exciting, the happy, the cool...
Today, I stepped into the Macacon Cafe at Gurney Plaza to try their offerings of macarons. They have 5 types of flavour and, as expected the price was absorbitant; RM3 for 1. I bought 5 macarons for RM14! After being exposed to Australian culture, I have had many different western pastries and one of them being the macaron. One of the attractive part of macarons is that it requires a special technique to make the crusts. Also the many different bright colourings of each macaron makes a macaron pleasant to the eyes!
So we can never say "NO!" To a piece of sweet and handsome macaron!
This week's Gospel, Simon and Andrew, the first 2 disciples of Jesus, could not help it but to cling themselves to Jesus. Simon and Andrew, got their eyes caught on the person of Christ. I wonder what attracted them to Jesus? Was Jesus glittering and colourful, in those days? Was Jesus like a macaron-sweet and handsome?
These 2 poor humble men, must have found in the way Jesus lived His life, a message that speaks of ETERNITY! Because, what else could these 2 poor fishermen, decide to leave their jobs and lives, and follow the life of Jesus? I am very sure Jesus offered them no money and no luxury. But, like to us today, Jesus only promised more persecutions. To those who are willing to persevere to the end, the promise of Eternal Life.
Today, in meditation, I asked myself, "IS MY LIFE UP TO THE MARK?" When others see the way I live my life, do they see in me a solution to today's problems? When others look at the way I work, I smile, I get angry...When people see my day to day living, do they see Eternity in me?
Not many are called to such a witnessing. Mahatma Ghandi and the Saints, they have lived their lives worthy of immitation. If you are called to a higher calling, my advice is to persevere in it. The life of a Saint is not a smooth one, but one marked by great persecutions. Mahatma Ghandi, had his life taken away from him; he was murdered!
